In our lightning talks meeting, everyone contributed some of their knowledge.

  • Milad 'animal1' Fatenejad discussed the emacs nXML environment.
  • Ed Marriott introduced us to the web developer tool Firebug.
  • Bill Sacks discussed his adventures revising his code to run in parallel with OpenMP.
  • Eric 'Wolfman' Howell defended the honor of Fortran by introducing us to the Fortran 90/95 manual.
  • Matt McCormick discussed some of the pros and cons of reference storage in BibTeX, HEVEA, RefWorks, JabRef, Zotero, EndNote etc.
  • Royal Elmore told us of his recent discovery of the -u flag for the shredding command.
  • Brandon Smith seconded collective enthusiasm for Zotero.
  • Kyle 'KMO' Oliver showed us the use of Meld for diffing files both with and without a repository as well as his pangramming experience with the google app engine.
  • Katy 'Southside' Huff discussed the phenomenon of FooCamps, BarCamps and unconferences in general. Maybe we should help set up a !HackerCamp Madison.
